24 Physicians, Three Markets, One Clear Read on Large-Bore Concepts
A balanced, in-person recruit made cross-market comparison simple.
A manufacturer wanted to test new concepts for its large-bore sheath and gauge reactions to two large-bore closure device concepts. It also wanted to validate the clinical pain points behind these ideas.
Large-bore access spans aortic, peripheral and structural heart work, so the recruit included several specialties. The sample comprised eight physicians in each of three markets: the US, Germany and the UK.
All 24 interviews were held in person, each lasting about an hour. In-person fieldwork allowed physicians to review concept materials in detail.
The final sample included:
14 vascular surgeons
5 interventional cardiologists
4 interventional radiologists
1 cardiothoracic surgeon
Most worked in academic or university hospitals, and more than half had 6 to 15 years of experience.
Screening captured each physician's procedure volumes and how often they used sheaths across EVAR, complex EVAR, TEVAR, PAD, and TAVR. That gave useful context: users could compare concepts with current experience, while lighter users showed how the concepts might land with new customers.
A balanced, multi-specialty sample provided the client with clear feedback on which concepts to prioritize and which questions remained.
